Biography

UT grad and Licensed Master Social Worker, with experience in the non-profit sector, with community groups and in state government. I am an active member of the South Haven Neighborhood Association and the South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition. I know how nonprofits operate, how grants are supposed to be used, and how public money should be spent and tracked. I bring a background in research, deep curiosity, and a healthy skepticism that’s badly needed on Council.

History

I grew up in a mountain town with a tourism and construction economy—not unlike parts of East Tennessee. Where I’m from, young people often have to leave to find work, and families hope they’ll one day come home.

My husband, Terrance, grew up here in Knoxville. His dad was a union representative for the RWDSU, and Terrance graduated from Central High School, went on to Pellissippi before heading out to find work like so many other young people. We met and fell in love in Los Angeles.

When I first visited his parents here, I fell in love with Knoxville too. We planned and saved for years so we could come home—just like every parent hopes their kids will.

After two decades away, Terrance wanted to move to South Knoxville because it was the one part of the city that still felt like the Knoxville he grew up in.

We moved here, rented, bought a home, and I earned my Master’s in Social Work from UT. Since then, we’ve been working to build a Knoxville that doesn’t have to lose its young people—and that makes space for the ones who want to come back.

Local government is best when it reflects the people who actually live here – and puts forward their struggles, their hopes, and their priorities. I see a disconnect between what the people of Knoxville need and what the City Council and the Mayor’s administration is delivering.

Let’s build a Knoxville that works for all of us, not just the well-connected few..”
